Man United player ratings vs Wolves: Chong improved and Lindelof good – Manchester Evening News

Sergio Romero

Superb save from Matt Doherty early in the first-half. Deserves to keep his place against City on Tuesday and maybe beyond. 7

Ashley Young

Bickered regularly with Tahith Chong. Defensively disciplined but had no impact in attack and resorted to hoiking the ball. 6

Victor Lindelof

Looked uncomfortable against pace but like Harry Maguire was back on form defensively and Wolves were largely tepid. Big block at the death. 7

Harry Maguire

Defensively back to his best. Maguire’s reading of passes and challenges were nigh-on flawless. His passing less so. 7

Brandon Williams

Had a decent shout for a penalty rejected and fared maybe better than expected against Adama Traore. Could stay in ahead of Luke Shaw. 7

Nemanja Matic

Angered some United supporters for going backwards rather than forwards but, against a tentative Wolves attack, did not disgrace himself. 6

Andreas Pereira

One of his first contributions was to hit a wall so surmountable Humpty Dumpty could have sat on it. Devoid of creativity at times. 5

Tahith Chong

Gave it back to Young and was urgent on the ball. More direct in the second-half and viciously hacked down by two Wolves players. 6

Juan Mata

Tidy on the ball but ineffectual, partially due to his callow attacking teammates.  Came close with a free-kick. Unfortunate to go off. 6

Daniel James

Has not scored in over four months and it is not a surprise. James’ shooting was wayward again but his pace frightened Wolves. 5

Mason Greenwood

Positioned as the number nine but played like a 10, depriving United of a figurehead. Over-eager to get on the ball. 5

Subs

Marcus Rashford

Almost immediately should have scored. 5

Fred

Brought energy. 6

Diogo Dalot

First appearance in almost three months. 4
